Here’s a comparison of the just announced X-T1, and how it compares with Fuji’s other top-end cameras, the X-E2 and X-Pro1. This information is all confirmed.

Huge thanks to Fuji Rumors for the fantastic work and reporting on the X-T1’s release. This post wouldn’t be possible without them.

Analysis

January 28 Updated analysis coming soon.

I’m surprised more people aren’t talking about the front and rear dials on the X-T1. These will almost certainly make a huge difference in how we use the camera. I also see what looks to be a Fn button on the front of the body.

Dedicated buttons everywhere!

The dedicated ISO dial has me pretty excited. There also looks to be an extra dial for selecting your metering mode, and your shooting mode (“Drive” in Fujifilm parlance). Video fans will also get a dedicated button too.

Sealed

I'm most excited about having a weather-sealed Fuji body. As previously mentioned, I’d put money on the new ƒ/2.8 zooms shown on Fujifilm’s updated roadmap being weather sealed. Fuji Rumors and others are already saying the 18-135mm variable aperture zoom lens will be. Wouldn’t it be awesome if Fuji surprised us with the 10-24mm ƒ/4 being weather-sealed as well? UPDATE Sadly, they did not. But a second version of the 10-24mm ƒ/4 is not out of the question.

I can’t wait to be able to hike, rain or shine, with this camera body and not worry about liquid damage.

Viewfinder

And how ’bout that EVF? Sounds like Fuji have their target set squarely on Olympus with this body. By the sounds of things, Fuji could very well make Oly fans consider jumping ship.

Others

Some thing that hasn’t been leaked yet that I’m still hopeful for is phase detect autofocus across almost the entire sense like you get on the E-M1.

There are also a few specs I wasn’t able to find. The EVF lag figures for the X-E2 and X-Pro1 for example. The X-E2 boasts a lowlight refresh time of 60 fps vs. the 20 fps, on previous interchangable bodies, but “lag” hasn’t been mentioned from what I’ve found. Corrections are welcome.

“Focus assist” also sounds interesting.

Conclusion

I am very excited about this camera body. I’m actually a little worried that the release date is rumoured to be so soon. I don’t know how I’m going to afford all this amazing new gear that’s coming out. The 56mm ƒ/1.2, the 10-24mm ƒ/4, the FUJIFILM X-T1, they’re all must-buys for me.

If you thought Fuji was on fire towards the end of last year, 2014 is shaping up to be downright explosive. I just keep getting happier about Fuji being my system of choice.

Don’t miss my comprehensive handling review of the Fujifilm X-T1.
